Recital, 2008

Collaborative, live performance at the Aruba Hotel’s Thunderbird Lounge in Las Vegas.   Sampling grade school dance recitals, Las Vegas showgirls, exercise videos, fashion and Britney Spears, this piece explores the notion of the performing female:  performing the body, performing identity, performing our social selves. Six women (five non-dancers, one dancer) wearing black leotards and headpieces are directed from off-stage to execute various “found” poses and group formations.  Recorded audio soundtrack by artist Stephen Hendee and found lyrics (popular culture dogma) performed by choir leader Robert Works.
